📋 The Longfin Dottyback is a genuinely uncommon member of the dottyback family, distinguished from its more commonly available relatives by its elongated fins and a genuinely restricted natural range.
Native to a genuinely narrow area of the Western Pacific, including northern Sulawesi in Indonesia, the southern Philippines, and Palau, this species inhabits steep outer reef slopes and areas of dense coral growth, and has genuinely even been recorded living inside the body cavities of large sponges.
This species genuinely only occasionally makes its way into the aquarium trade, and while captive breeding has been documented, offspring numbers genuinely haven't been enough to meet demand, keeping wild collection the standard source. It's naturally a genuinely solitary species in the wild, and does best kept singly in the home aquarium as well. Like most dottybacks, it's considered reef safe with caution — it won't harm coral tissue, but will genuinely compete with other zooplankton feeders for food and may be territorial toward similarly shaped tank mates.
