📋 The Strawberry Dottyback, also known as the Magenta or Purple Dottyback, has an eye-catching, bright, solid-coloured magenta body. It's easy to confuse with our Orchid Dottyback (Pseudochromis fridmani): the Strawberry has clear fins, while the Orchid has a black stripe through the eye.
It ranges across the Western Pacific, from the Philippines to Samoa, north to the Ryukyu Islands and south to the Moluccas and Admiralty Islands, and it's an occasional find in the aquarium trade. Every Strawberry Dottyback we ship is feeding well.
It's a popular, hardy dottyback, and while it's less aggressive than many relatives, it can still be territorial, particularly toward similarly shaped fish, so keep it singly, or introduce a confirmed pair together in a spacious tank. It's reef safe with caution: it won't harm corals or most invertebrates, but it will eat small ornamental shrimp. It's more sensitive than most fish to copper-based medications, so take care during any treatment. It reaches about 6cm, so a 90L tank suits it well.
