🐠 Splendid Dottyback (Manonichthys splendens)
Marine Reef-Safe Territorial Dottyback • Pinkish-Yellow Body With Blue Flecks & Neon Blue Fin Trim • Genuinely One of the Larger, More Assertive Dottybacks • Beginner-Friendly Marine Fish
📋 The Splendid Dottyback, also known as the Splendid Pseudochromis, has a genuinely spectacular pinkish-yellow body speckled with blue flecks, spotted fins rimmed in neon blue, and a yellow tail and top of the head, with some specimens displaying a grey-to-black eye stripe.
Native to Indonesia, the Philippines, and Australia across the Western Indo-Pacific, this species inhabits shallow reefs, reef slopes, and outer reef areas, genuinely showing a particular affinity for tube sponges.
This is genuinely one of the larger dottybacks available at up to 13cm, and while a real hardy and colourful addition, it's genuinely quite assertive for its size, defending its claimed territory even against fish two to three times larger. We want to be honest that wild-caught specimens' colouration genuinely varies with diet, with higher-quality feeding producing the brighter, more sought-after colours seen in well-cared-for specimens. It's fully reef safe with corals, though we want to be upfront that it will genuinely eat small ornamental shrimp, so companion invertebrates should be chosen with real care. Due to its territorial nature, it should genuinely be the only dottyback or similarly shaped species in smaller tanks.
