🐠 Sunrise Dottyback (Pseudochromis flavivertex)

Marine Reef-Safe-With-Caution Nano Dottyback • Blue Body With a Bright Yellow Dorsal Stripe From Snout to Tail • Genuinely One of the Least Aggressive Dottybacks • Beginner-Friendly Marine Fish

📋 The Sunrise Dottyback, also known as the Sunrise Pseudochromis or Blue Flavivertex Dottyback, has a genuinely striking blue body with a white ventral area, decorated by a bright yellow stripe running the full length from snout to tail — a colour combination genuinely reminiscent of a sunrise over the sea.

Native to the Red Sea and the wider Indo-Pacific, this species is genuinely found as solitary individuals around the bases of small rocks and coral heads over sandy substrates, at depths between 2 and 30 metres.

This is genuinely one of the less aggressive dottyback species, and a real charming addition to reef aquaria without small ornamental crustaceans present. We want to share a genuinely useful trait: this species preys on many invertebrate pests, including small fireworms, making it a real beneficial addition for pest control. We want to be honest that it's genuinely quite shy and secretive, typically only leaving hiding places to feed, so it should never be housed with large or aggressive tank mates that could intimidate it into starvation. It's considered reef safe with caution — adults will genuinely eat small ornamental shrimp, though it otherwise coexists well with community reef inhabitants. We want to be upfront that it's genuinely a known expert jumper, so a tight-fitting lid is essential.
