📋 The Sunrise Dottyback, also known as the Sunrise Pseudochromis or Blue Flavivertex Dottyback, has a striking blue body with a white underside, decorated by a bright yellow stripe running the full length from snout to tail, a colour combination reminiscent of a sunrise over the sea.
It comes from the Red Sea and the wider Indo-Pacific, where it lives as solitary individuals around the bases of small rocks and coral heads over sandy substrates, at depths of 2 to 30 metres. It's one of the less aggressive dottyback species, and a charming addition to a reef aquarium without small ornamental crustaceans. Every Sunrise Dottyback we ship is feeding well.
It's a useful natural hunter of invertebrate pests, including small fireworms, so it's a real asset for pest control. It's shy and secretive, typically only coming out to feed, so give it calm, confident tankmates rather than anything large or boisterous. It's reef safe with caution: adults will eat small ornamental shrimp, but it otherwise coexists well with community reef inhabitants. It's a known expert jumper, so a tight-fitting lid is essential. It reaches about 7.5cm, so plan on at least 115L.
