🐠 Striped Dottyback (Pseudochromis sankeyi)

Marine Reef-Safe Colonial Dottyback • Distinct Horizontal Black & White Stripes With Transparent Fins • Genuinely One of the Least Aggressive Dottybacks • Beginner-Friendly Marine Fish

📋 The Striped Dottyback, also known as the Sankey's Dottyback, has a genuinely striking body marked with distinct horizontal black and white stripes running its full length, with transparent fins and a tail that tapers almost to a point.

Native to the Southern Red Sea and Gulf of Aden across the western Indian Ocean, this species genuinely lives in small colonies within rock rubble at relatively shallow depths, preferring reef structure and the shelter of plating corals.

We want to share a genuinely notable trait: while many dottybacks have a reputation as feisty little bullies, this species is genuinely one of the least territorial in the entire family, largely due to its natural colonial lifestyle, with individuals normally not fighting one another when introduced together simultaneously. We want to be honest that it can be genuinely shy and secretive at first, especially upon introduction, though it soon becomes noticeably bolder and spends more time out in the open. It's fully reef safe, and genuinely useful as a natural pest controller, preying on bristleworms in the aquarium. We want to be upfront that it may still annoy smaller, more timid fish, and does best with larger, somewhat assertive tank mates.
