📋 The Orange Lined Goby, also known as the Orangemarked Goby, Crosshatch Goby, or Orange-Striped Goby, has a pale bluish-grey body with a pair of bold orange stripes across the head, fading into four faint orange stripes crossed by diffuse vertical bars along the sides, giving it a subtle cross-hatched pattern, with a distinctive orange spot at the base of the tail.
It comes from the Western Central Pacific, from the Philippines to New Caledonia, north to the Yaeyama Islands, and south to the Great Barrier Reef, including Micronesia, inhabiting muddy bottoms of inshore bays and lagoons, and sand and rubble flats on inner reefs, typically to around 20 metres. Every Orange Lined Goby we ship is feeding well.
This species shelters in a burrow, often one made by another invertebrate rather than one it digs itself, and spends much of its day sifting mouthfuls of sand and mud in search of small invertebrates and detritus. It's a peaceful community fish, reef safe, and generally gets along well with tankmates, though it can become aggressive toward other similarly shaped gobies as it matures. It's one of the less algae-dependent Amblygobius species, making it a little more flexible with diet than some relatives. It's also a known jumper, so a secure, tight-fitting lid matters. It reaches up to 9.5cm, so a 75L tank suits it well.
