🐠 Orange Lined Goby (Valenciennea helsdingenii)

Marine Reef-Safe-With-Caution Sand-Sifting Goby • Pale Body With Two Prominent Orange-Black Stripes & a Blue Head • Genuine Substrate-Cleaning Specialist • Intermediate Marine Fish

📋 The Orange Lined Goby, also known as the Twostripe Goby, Black-Lined Sleeper Goby, or Railway Sleeper Goby, has a genuinely distinctive pale body marked with two prominent, well-defined orange-to-black lines running its full length, along with a striking blue-tinged head.

Native to a genuinely wide range across the Indo-Pacific, from the Red Sea and East Africa to the central Pacific, this species inhabits sandy areas of the reef, often found in genuine monogamous pairs during the breeding season.

Like other members of the Valenciennea genus, this species is a genuinely valuable natural sand-bed cleaner, sifting mouthfuls of substrate through its gills to filter out food while aerating the sand and helping control detritus. We want to be honest that it genuinely needs a stable, mature tank with a thick, well-established sand bed and plenty of live rock for hiding, and if the substrate lacks sufficient natural microfauna, it may struggle to get enough to eat. It's a genuinely peaceful, non-aggressive species that can be kept with a wide variety of tank mates. We want to be upfront that it's also a genuine jumper, so a secure, tight-fitting lid matters. It's considered reef safe with caution — it won't harm corals directly, but as a sand sifter, it will consume small infaunal invertebrates living in the substrate.
