📋 Randall's Shrimp Goby, also known as Randall's Prawn Goby or the Orange Stripe Prawn Goby, has a distinctive pearly white body crossed by narrow orange bands, with a tall, fan-shaped first dorsal fin marked by a prominent black spot surrounded by smaller white spots.
It comes from the Western Pacific, from the Moluccas and Solomon Islands north to the Ryukyu Islands and south to the northern Great Barrier Reef, with populations also around Palau, inhabiting clear reef environments with sand, rubble, and small caves. A charming natural partnership defines this species: it forms a real, specific commensal relationship with the pistol shrimp Alpheus randalli, sharing a burrow the shrimp digs and maintains, while the goby hovers near the entrance keeping watch, retreating quickly at the first sign of danger. This is a peaceful, easy-to-maintain species once established, though it's a known jumper, so a tight-fitting lid is essential, especially given it startles easily. It's considered reef safe with caution; it's an excellent reef fish overall, but may pose a threat to small ornamental shrimp. It reaches up to 10cm, so a 75L tank suits it well.
