📋 The Red Clown Goby, also known as the Red Coral Goby or Fivestripe Goby, has a small, stocky body with a distinctively large head, and its colouration varies widely between individuals, ranging from pale red through to jet black.
It comes from a wide range across the Indo-Pacific, living directly among branching coral colonies, using them as both home and food source. Every Red Clown Goby we ship is feeding well.
This is a peaceful species toward other fish, though it will fight among its own kind in smaller tanks, and does best introduced simultaneously as a group or mated pair in a spacious tank with branching coral present. This species is a common captive spawner, but caution is warranted with Acropora and similar SPS corals, since eggs are laid on the underside of coral branches, causing localised tissue recession, though under good conditions, the coral will typically recover. It's reef safe with caution for this reason, and does best housed with other docile species that won't outcompete it for food. It reaches up to 5.5cm, so a 50L tank suits it well.
