🐠 Ambon Damsel (Pomacentrus amboinensis)
Marine Reef-Safe Damselfish • Yellow & Blue Display Fish • Hardy Active Swimmer • Beginner-Friendly Marine Fish
📋 The Ambon Damsel (Pomacentrus amboinensis) is a colourful, hardy marine fish with a yellow to pale mauve body, blue markings around the eyes and gill plates, and a distinctive dark eyespot near the dorsal fin that fades as the fish matures.
Native to lagoons, reef slopes, and coastal reefs across the Indo-Pacific, from northwestern Australia to the central Pacific, Ambon Damsels are typically found in small social groups consisting of one mature male guarding a nest site alongside several females.
Naturally active and hardy, Ambon Damsels are among the easiest marine fish to keep, making them a popular starting point for new saltwater aquarists. Like most damselfish, they carry a genuine semi-aggressive streak — particularly toward similarly sized fish or their own species once settled — so thoughtful tank mate selection and adequate space matter more than with fully peaceful species.
With stable water conditions and appropriate tank mates, they thrive as a Hardy Colourful Beginner Marine Display Fish.
