📋 The Banded Longfin Basslet, also known as the Barred Spiny Basslet or simply the Banded Longfin, has a genuinely rich brown body marked with dark vertical stripes, an orange chest and lower head, and a distinctive white stripe below the eye, with fins showing genuine fiery red-orange tones.
Native to a genuinely wide range across the Western Pacific, from Japan south to Australia and east to New Caledonia, this species is genuinely the sole member of its own genus, and is genuinely rarely seen in the aquarium trade.
We want to be genuinely upfront about reef safety: despite sometimes being labelled reef safe, this species behaves like a genuine miniature predator — it's well documented to hunt and eat small ornamental shrimp, breaking larger prey apart against rock to consume it piece by piece if it can't swallow it whole. It's also genuinely incredibly shy and secretive, often hiding for extended periods before gradually becoming bolder and cruising more openly once fully settled in. This species is genuinely territorial toward its own kind in smaller tanks and should be housed with tank mates too large to be seen as prey.
