🐠 Yellow Assessor Basslet (Assessor flavissimus)

Marine Reef-Safe Cave-Dwelling Basslet • Vibrant, Entirely Yellow Body With Orange-Red Fin Outlining & a Hint of Blue at the Eye • Genuine Documented Upside-Down Swimming Behaviour • Beginner-Friendly Marine Fish

📋 The Yellow Assessor Basslet, also known as the Gold Assessor, Yellow Devilfish, or Golden Assessor Basslet, has a genuinely vivid, entirely yellow body outlined in orange-to-red along the fins, with just a hint of blue highlighting the eye.

Native to deep reef environments across the Western Pacific, particularly around Australia's Great Barrier Reef, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, and Tonga, this species genuinely spends much of its time in caves and beneath ledges.

We want to share a genuinely fascinating fact: this species has a real documented habit of swimming and hovering completely upside down beneath overhangs and cave ceilings, a natural adaptation to its sheltered habitat. This is genuinely a hardy, easy-to-care species that can be somewhat shy initially, but becomes bold and personable once established, often developing genuine interactive relationships with its keeper. We want to be honest that it can be territorial, particularly toward other Assessor species or similarly shaped fish, so only one should generally be kept per tank, though a pair or small group is possible if juveniles are introduced simultaneously to a sufficiently large, well-established aquarium. It's fully reef safe, and won't harm corals or larger invertebrates, though it will consume very small invertebrates such as amphipods, isopods, and copepods.
