🐠 Swalesi Basslet (Liopropoma swalesi)

Marine Reef-Safe-With-Caution Deep-Reef Basslet • Elongated Cream-to-Orange Body With Horizontal Purple Stripes & Black Eye Spots • Genuinely Rare in the Trade • Intermediate Marine Fish

📋 The Swalesi Basslet, also known as Swales' Swissguard Basslet or the Pacific Candy Basslet, has a genuinely eye-catching elongated body in orange with horizontal purple or cream stripes, with the dorsal and caudal fins rimmed in blue or purple and marked by large black eye spots.

Native to deeper reef habitats of the Western Pacific, this species genuinely inhabits dense coral formations on coastal slopes down to depths of around 110 metres.

This is genuinely a rare and intriguing deep-reef species, and a real prized addition for experienced aquarists given its vivid, intricate colouration. We want to be honest that it's genuinely secretive by nature, and requires a mature, stable aquarium with plenty of live rock, deep caves, and subdued lighting to mimic its natural deep-reef environment. It's considered reef safe with caution — it won't bother corals, snails, or tube worms, but may genuinely become aggressive toward small ornamental shrimp and other similarly sized fish. We want to be upfront that it's genuinely uncommon in the aquarium trade, and like other Liopropoma basslets, it's a known jumper, so a tight-fitting lid is essential.
