📋 The Lantern Bass, also known as the Lantern Basslet, has a genuinely attractive elongated body covered in small rectangular patches of orange, black, and brown, with a yellow line running horizontally from the gills to the tail.
Native to the Caribbean, South Florida, the Bahamas, and Brazil, this species genuinely represents another real geographic outlier compared to most of our Indo-Pacific stock, spending much of its time perching in and around rockwork and caves.
This is a genuinely one of the smaller members of the Serranus genus, hardy and disease-resistant, and a great choice for beginners. We want to be honest that it can be genuinely bold and even semi-aggressive toward smaller, passive, or skittish tank mates, and will prey on small shrimp and crabs. It's considered reef safe with caution — it won't pick at corals or sessile invertebrates, making it a good fit for a reef tank that doesn't house small fish or shrimp. Multiple specimens can genuinely be kept together if introduced simultaneously, though it should not be housed with other basslets to avoid aggression.
