📋 The Cloudy Damsel (Dascyllus carneus), also known as the Cloudy Dascyllus or Indian Dascyllus, has a pearly white body with a slightly darker head, a bold black band running from the first dorsal fin through the pectoral fin base, and small dark-rimmed blue spots scattered across the head and breast.
Native to branching coral reefs across the Indian Ocean, from East Africa to the Seychelles, Chagos, and surrounding islands, this species is genuinely uncommon in the trade and naturally forms small shoals or harems around staghorn Acropora and Pocillopora coral colonies.
An interesting natural history detail: juvenile Cloudy Damsels are sometimes found associating with host anemones, but they typically abandon this relationship as they mature and shift toward coral heads instead. Like most members of the Dascyllus genus, this species is relatively peaceful and well-behaved as a juvenile but does genuinely become more territorial and confident with age, so it's worth planning tank mates with that in mind. It's best kept as a pair or a small harem of one male with several females.
With ample live rock or coral structure and appropriate tank mates, it thrives as a Social Shoaling Reef Display Fish.
