📋 The Neon Damsel, also known as the Blue and Gold Damsel or Electric Blue Damsel, has a genuinely vivid, iridescent electric blue body that glows under aquarium lighting, with a yellow tail, caudal peduncle, and belly — the exact amount of yellow genuinely varies depending on where the specimen was collected.
Native to a genuinely wide range across the Indo-Pacific, from Sri Lanka to the Line and Tuamoto Islands, and from southern Japan to Rowley Shoals and Lord Howe Island, this species inhabits rubble areas on lagoon and seaward reefs at depths of roughly 1 to 20 metres.
This is a genuinely hardy, active, and bold species, known for darting confidently around the tank, and is one of the few damsels that can genuinely tolerate the break-in cycle of a newly established aquarium, making it a popular early addition. We want to be honest that it can be genuinely territorial and confrontational, particularly toward similarly sized or shaped tank mates, and is best introduced last, or kept in a genuine small group of five to seven or more to help spread out aggression. It's considered reef safe with caution — it will genuinely ignore most corals, but may pick at benthic invertebrates and occasionally nip at soft corals.
