📋 The Neon Damsel, also known as the Blue and Gold Damsel or Electric Blue Damsel, has a vivid, iridescent electric blue body that glows under aquarium lighting, with a yellow tail, caudal peduncle, and belly, the exact amount of yellow varying depending on where the specimen was collected.
It comes from a wide range across the Indo-Pacific, from Sri Lanka to the Line and Tuamoto Islands, and from southern Japan to Rowley Shoals and Lord Howe Island, inhabiting rubble areas on lagoon and seaward reefs at depths of roughly 1 to 20 metres. Every Neon Damsel we ship is feeding well.
This is a hardy, active, and bold species, known for darting confidently around the tank, and is one of the few damsels that can tolerate the break-in cycle of a newly established aquarium, making it a popular early addition. It can be territorial and confrontational, particularly toward similarly sized or shaped tankmates, and is best introduced last, or kept in a small group of five to seven or more to help spread out aggression. It's considered reef safe with caution; it will ignore most corals, but may pick at benthic invertebrates and occasionally nip at soft corals. It reaches up to 9cm, so a 115L tank suits it well.
