Like all pufferfish, this species carries tetrodotoxin — a powerful neurotoxin genuinely around 100 times more potent than cyanide — concentrated in its skin and internal organs. This toxin is genuinely intended as predator defence, but under severe stress it can be released into the surrounding water, which can genuinely be harmful to tankmates, so please minimise stress and avoid netting this species; use a container instead. It also has genuinely continuously growing teeth, which require regular access to hard-shelled foods to wear down naturally — please speak with our team about appropriate feeding.
 
📋 Bennett's Toby, also known as Bennett's Sharpnose Puffer or the Exquisite Toby, has a genuinely cryptic appearance — an olive-green upper body countershaded against a paler lower half, both covered in small blue-green spots, with light brown squiggles across the back. This countershading and spotted camouflage genuinely helps disguise its body outline from predators and prey alike.
Native to a genuinely wide range across the Indo-West Pacific, from East Africa to the Tuamotu Islands, north to Taiwan, and south to New South Wales, this species inhabits open sand slopes and rubble zones on reef flats and sheltered lagoons.
It's considered reef safe with caution — it will genuinely nip at some invertebrates and may damage corals — and can genuinely be nippy toward long-finned fish and other puffers, so careful tank mate selection matters.
