📋 The Porcupine Pufferfish, also known as the Long-Spine Porcupinefish or Balloon Porcupinefish, has a genuinely charming light tan-to-grey body covered in dark brown blotches and black spots, with long spines running across its body that lie flat until the fish inflates.
Native to a genuinely wide range across the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans, this species inhabits shallow reefs, soft bottoms, and areas with rocky substrate.
This is a genuinely one of the most iconic and popular pufferfish in the saltwater hobby, with a real "puppy-dog" charm and personality — this species is documented recognising its keeper, swimming to the glass when approached, and even begging for food, with some individuals observed spitting water to gain attention. We want to be honest that it's a naturally messy eater with a genuinely significant bioload, so strong filtration matters, and its powerful jaws are genuinely known to bite through tubing, wiring, and even heaters, so equipment placement needs real thought.
