📋 The Longhorn Cowfish has a genuinely distinctive box-shaped body encased in a hard, hexagonal carapace, typically yellow, orange, or brown with blue spots, and two long, forward-pointing horns above the eyes plus a second, shorter pair beneath the tail, both used for natural defence against predators.
Native to a genuinely wide range across the Indo-Pacific, from the Red Sea and East Africa to the Ryukyu Islands and Lord Howe Island, this species inhabits reef flats and sandy areas in calmer water.
This is a genuinely popular, characterful species with a distinctive, almost comical swimming style, and is generally peaceful and hardy once properly settled. We want to be honest that this species genuinely grows quite large, up to 12-15 inches in captivity, so please plan for a serious, spacious tank from the outset. It's considered reef safe with caution — it won't typically harm coral or anemones directly, but will genuinely eat small snails, tubeworms, shrimp, and other benthic invertebrates.
