⚠️ Important Information — Please Read First

We want to be genuinely upfront on this one. This species genuinely grows very large, reaching up to 45-50cm (around 18-20") in the wild, and multiple expert sources genuinely recommend a minimum aquarium size of 180 to 300 gallons for a fully grown adult. Its body is genuinely covered in a toxic mucus containing tetrodotoxin, a powerful poison that can be fatal if the skin or flesh is consumed by humans, so please never use a net for transfers, as this species genuinely releases toxin into the water when stressed — always use a rigid container instead. Please only consider this species with a serious, concrete long-term plan for its truly large eventual size.

📋 The Stars & Stripes Pufferfish, also known as the White-Spotted Puffer, has a genuinely distinctive greenish-tan-to-grey body covered above with small white spots resembling stars, and marked below with horizontal stripes completing its namesake pattern.

Native to a genuinely vast range across the Indo-Pacific, the Red Sea, and Hawaii, this species inhabits coral reefs, tide pools, mangrove swamps, seagrass beds, and estuaries.

We want to be honest that this species is genuinely easy to confuse with our Reticulated Pufferfish (Arothron reticularis), though the two are distinguished by skin texture — the Reticulated Pufferfish genuinely has tiny dermal spines covering its body, which this species lacks. Like other members of the Arothron genus, this species is genuinely known for its intelligence and personality, quickly learning to recognise its keeper and often becoming one of the most interactive fish in the tank, even appearing to beg for food. We want to be upfront: this species is not reef safe, and will genuinely consume invertebrates found in the aquarium using its fused, beak-like teeth.
