📋 The Hawaiian Whitespotted Toby, also known as the Whitespotted Toby Pufferfish, White Spotted Sharpnose Puffer, or Spotted Puffer, has a genuinely reddish-brown body covered in numerous small white dots, with a distinctive white caudal fin.
We want to share a genuinely interesting fact: this species is a real Hawaiian endemic, found only around the Hawaiian Islands, though it occasionally makes its way into the wider aquarium trade.
Like all members of the Canthigaster genus, this species is genuinely referred to as a "toby" rather than a puffer, and offers a real more manageable alternative to larger 10"+ puffer species for the home aquarium. This is genuinely a peaceful but somewhat slow-moving species, best kept with equally peaceful, swift-moving tank mates such as damselfish, and should not be housed with aggressive species like groupers, dottybacks, triggerfish, or angelfish. It's considered reef safe with caution, and we want to be honest that its continuously growing teeth genuinely benefit from hard-shelled foods to help wear them down naturally.
