📋 The Honeycomb Toby , also known as the Spotted Pufferfish, has a genuinely attractive reddish-brown body covered in numerous small white spots, creating a honeycomb-like appearance across its skin.
Native to a genuinely vast range across the Indo-Pacific, from the east coast of Africa to the Line and Marquesas Islands, and north to Japan, this species inhabits reef environments, often near sponges, at depths of roughly 1 to 30 metres.
This species genuinely lacks pelvic fins, like other members of the pufferfish family, relying on its pectoral fins for movement. We want to be honest that this is a genuinely slow-moving species, and should not be housed with aggressive tank mates like groupers, dottybacks, triggerfish, or angelfish that may harass it — peaceful, similarly unhurried swimmers such as damselfish make better companions. We want to be upfront: this species is not reef safe, and will genuinely nip at stony corals and eat small ornamental shrimp, crabs, snails, and tubeworms.
