🐠 Leopard Toby Pufferfish (Canthigaster leoparda)

Marine Reef-Safe-With-Caution Sharpnose Puffer • Pearly White Body Covered in Dark Dots & Dashes • Genuine Deep-Water Rarity • Intermediate Marine Fish

📋 The Leopard Toby Pufferfish, also known as the Leopard Puffer or Leopard Sharpnose Puffer, has a genuinely eye-catching pearly white body covered in numerous dark dots and dashes, forming the mosaic pattern that gives the species its common name.

Native to the Western Pacific, including Christmas Island, Guam, and the Philippines, this species is genuinely found at depths of up to 50 metres near steep drop-offs and caves — considerably deeper than many related Canthigaster species, which likely explains why it's infrequently seen in the aquarium trade.

This is a genuinely hardy, small, undemanding puffer with a real engaging personality, reaching a maximum size of only around 7.5cm, making it an appealing alternative to the much larger Arothron puffers. It genuinely lacks pelvic fins, like other pufferfish, and relies on its dorsal, anal, and pectoral fins for graceful movement. We want to be honest that this species will puff up if it feels threatened, so always use a container rather than a net when handling it. It's considered reef safe with caution — it will genuinely disturb and consume small invertebrates and may nip at stony corals, and should be kept singly unless a genuine confirmed mated pair is acquired, watched carefully as the male can become aggressive.
