🐠 Black & White Ocellaris Clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris "Darwin")

A Deep, Near-Jet-Black Body With Crisp White Bands • A Naturally Occurring Colour Morph • Care Identical to the Standard Ocellaris

📋 The Black & White Ocellaris Clownfish, often called the Darwin Clownfish, is a striking natural colour morph of the classic Ocellaris Clownfish: a deep, near-jet-black body set off by the same crisp white bands seen on standard Ocellaris.

Unlike many "designer" clownfish colour varieties that are selectively bred through artificial selection, the Darwin morph is a naturally occurring variant, found in the wild only within a small geographic range around Darwin, Northern Australia. Wild collection is rare, and captive-bred stock now makes up nearly the entire market, a a conservation positive for a naturally limited-range fish. Every Black & White Ocellaris Clownfish we ship is feeding well.

Interestingly, this fish doesn't start out black: juveniles begin life mostly orange, with the black colouration developing and spreading gradually over their first 12-18 months as they mature. A little residual orange or brown shading near the face is completely normal in younger or newly settled fish and typically deepens to black over time with stable water conditions and a good diet. Beyond the striking colour, care requirements are identical to the standard Ocellaris Clownfish: hardy, easygoing, and one of the best entry points into marine fishkeeping. It's fully reef safe. It reaches 7-8cm, so a 75L tank suits it well.
