We want to be genuinely upfront on this one. Maroon Clownfish, including this Gold Stripe variety, are widely regarded as the most aggressive clownfish species in the entire hobby. They should not be housed with other clownfish species, and females in particular become genuinely large and territorial as they mature. This species also carries a pair of sharp cheek spines beneath each eye — literally what "biaculeatus" means — which can injure hands or snag nets during handling. It's also worth knowing that Gold Stripe Maroons are genuinely among the more difficult clownfish to pair up successfully, so keeping a single specimen is often the safer choice unless you already have a confirmed compatible pair. On the positive side, this variety has been observed to be somewhat less aggressive than the standard White Stripe form, and captive-bred specimens are genuinely calmer and better adapted to aquarium life than wild-caught individuals.
📋 The Gold Stripe Maroon Clownfish is a genuine natural colour variety, first identified in wild populations around Sumatra, Indonesia. Juveniles begin with the standard white stripes seen on typical Maroon Clownfish, but these gradually deepen into a rich gold colouration as the fish matures, usually starting around 9 to 12 months of age, beginning with the head stripe first.
Native to reefs across the Indo-Pacific, wild Maroon Clownfish readily host in Bubble Tip Anemones, though a host isn't required in captivity.
