We want to be genuinely upfront on this one. Maroon Clownfish are widely regarded as the most aggressive clownfish species in the entire hobby. They should not be housed with other clownfish species, and females in particular become genuinely large and territorial as they mature, especially when guarding eggs. This species also carries a pair of sharp cheek spines beneath each eye — literally what "biaculeatus" means — which can injure hands or snag nets during handling, so care is genuinely needed. On the positive side, captive-bred specimens are documented as noticeably calmer and better adapted to aquarium life than wild-caught individuals.
 
📋 The Maroon Clownfish displays the classic wild-type pattern: a deep maroon-red body marked with three bold white bars, one behind the eye, one at mid-body, and one at the base of the tail. It's the largest clownfish species, with females genuinely dwarfing males as they mature.
Native to reefs across the Indo-Pacific, wild Maroon Clownfish readily host in Bubble Tip Anemones, though a host isn't required in captivity.
