📋 The Flame Anthias (Pseudanthias ignitus), also known as the Ignitus Anthias or Flame Fairy Basslet, shows a genuinely gorgeous gradient of colour — an orange-red head and body deepening toward the tail, tinged with lavender toward the belly, and a pale yellow underside marked with a distinctive orange-and-lavender stripe through the eye.
Native to the eastern Indian Ocean and far western Pacific, including the Maldives, Andaman Islands, and the Similan Islands right here in Thailand, as well as Sumatra, this species naturally shoals in large numbers above outer reef slopes in areas with strong currents and heavy wave action.
Flame Anthias can be a little shy for the first few days after introduction, but this typically passes quickly as the fish settles in. It's best kept singly, or as a harem of one male with several females in a large enough tank, and a secure lid is genuinely important as this species can jump. As an active zooplankton feeder, it genuinely benefits from small, frequent feedings rather than one large meal, and an established refugium producing live copepods is a real asset for long-term health.
With a spacious tank, frequent feeding, and strong water flow, it thrives as a Gradient-Coloured Reef Shoaling Display Fish.
