📋 The Lyretail Anthias, also known as the Scalefin Anthias or Sea Goldie, is one of the most iconic reef fish in the hobby. Males show a fiery orange-to-reddish hue with elongated, trailing dorsal fins and a metallic pinkish-purple ring around the eye, while females are a softer, rounded golden-orange.
It ranges across the Red Sea, Indian Ocean, and Indo-Pacific, from East Africa to Japan and southeast Australia, where it forms large, mesmerising shoals along reef slopes and drop-offs, feeding on zooplankton carried by the current. It's constantly on the move, and that confident, out-and-about energy can help coax shyer tankmates out of hiding too. Every Lyretail Anthias we ship is feeding well.
It's fully reef safe and won't harm corals or invertebrates. It naturally forms a harem of one dominant male with several females, so keep just one male per tank, since two together leads to serious aggression. It's a capable jumper, so use a tight-fitting lid. It reaches up to 15cm, with males larger than females, so plan on at least 285L for a small group.
