📋 The Huchtii Anthias, also known as the Threadfin Anthias, Red-Cheeked Fairy Basslet, or Pacific Basslet, is one of the more distinctively marked anthias. Males show a lavender-grey to yellowish body with a bright orange-red stripe running from the eye to the base of the pectoral fin, a maroon band on the leading edge of the pelvic fin, and a notably elongated third dorsal spine. Females and juveniles are a simpler greenish-yellow, with a fainter version of the same facial stripe.
It comes from the Western Central Pacific, where it gathers in small groups and aggregations at drop-offs around the outer crests of coral reefs, sometimes mixing with the similar Lyretail Anthias. It's an active mid-water planktivore that shows its best colour and natural schooling behaviour in a small group within a mature, well-circulated reef system. It's fully reef safe and safe with invertebrates. Males are territorial and haremic, so keep one male with several females, or a single fish. It reaches up to 12cm for males (females stay around half that), so plan on at least 280L.
