🐠 Threadfin Anthias (Nemanthias carberryi)

Marine Reef-Safe Shoaling Fish • Purple, Yellow & Pink Body With Filament Fins • Genuinely the Sole Member of Its Genus • Intermediate Marine Fish

📋 The Threadfin Anthias , also known as the Carberryi or Threadfin Goldie, displays genuine striking sexual dimorphism — males show a vivid purple head and belly against a yellow back and tail, with elongated dorsal and caudal fin filaments, while females display softer shades of pink, orange, and yellow throughout.

Native to the Western Indian Ocean, from the Maldives to East Africa, this species hovers just off outer reef slopes in strong, nutrient-rich currents at depths from 12 to over 100 feet, forming large aggregations that pluck zooplankton from the water by day before retreating into reef crevices at dusk. It's genuinely the sole species in its own genus, Nemanthias.

This species genuinely benefits from a calm, considered introduction — some specimens take a little longer than usual to acclimate, and keeping it alongside another established anthias species can genuinely help ease this transition. Once settled, it's a wonderfully active, engaging fish, and its confident presence can genuinely help coax shyer tank mates out of hiding. It's fully reef safe and does best kept as a harem of one male with several females — but we want to be honest that housing two males together can lead to genuinely extreme aggression, so only ever keep one male per tank.
