🐠 Red Fairy Anthias (Pseudanthias kashiwae)

📋 The Red Fairy Anthias, also known as the Tricolor or Kashiwae Anthias, shows clear differences between the sexes: males have a yellow rear body, an orange head, and a broad red bar along the side, while females are a softer pinkish-orange with red tips on the caudal fin. Both sexes share a distinctive violet band running from below the eye to the base of the pectoral fin.
It comes from the Red Sea, Maldives, and Great Barrier Reef, collected from meaningfully deep water, and it does best under lower lighting that reflects its natural habitat. It's a notable species: unlike most anthias, it's one of the few that mixes well with other anthias varieties, such as the Lyretail, Square Spot, or Purple Queen, when introduced carefully and monitored. It's fully reef safe and does best kept in small harems of one male with several females, though it can be territorial toward other zooplankton feeders. It's a capable jumper, so use a tight-fitting lid. It reaches up to 11cm, so plan on at least 265L.
