📋 The Randall's Anthias has a genuinely striking pink-to-magenta body — males develop a fine red-and-magenta striped pattern with maturity, while females stay a softer pink with a distinctive yellow nose.
Native to the Western Pacific, from the Philippines to Niue and north to the Ryukyu Islands, this species is genuinely uncommon in the trade and collected from meaningfully deep water, giving it a reputation as a slightly more delicate shipper than shallower-collected anthias.
Genuinely unlike most anthias, this species is a bottom-dweller rather than an open-water schooler, spending its time close to live rock and appreciating dimmer lighting alongside plenty of hiding places. It's fully reef safe and generally peaceful, though males are territorial toward other males — house as a single specimen, a mated pair, or one male with several females. Like other anthias, it's a genuine protogynous hermaphrodite: if the dominant male is lost, the largest female will typically transform to take his place.
