🐠 Gold Nugget Maroon Clownfish (Premnas biaculeatus)

A Solid Golden Body With Deep Maroon Fins • A Remarkable White-to-Gold Transformation • The Largest, Boldest Clownfish Species

📋 The Gold Nugget Maroon Clownfish is a striking designer variant of the Gold Stripe Maroon Clownfish. Rather than the classic three golden stripes, this strain displays a solid golden body with deep maroon fins and face, edged in fluorescent orange, with the gold colouration extending into the fin bases. Specimens typically start out nearly white and gradually transform to their brilliant gold colouration as they mature, usually around 1 to 1.5 years of age, a remarkable transformation to watch unfold.

Wild Maroon Clownfish readily host in Bubble Tip, Magnificent, and Carpet Anemones, though a host isn't required in captivity. Every Gold Nugget Maroon Clownfish we ship is feeding well, and we favour this ORA-style captive-bred strain, which is hardy, disease-resistant, and readily accepts prepared foods.

It's the boldest, most confident clownfish species in the hobby, so keep it as the only clownfish in the tank, away from other species. It also carries a pair of sharp cheek spines beneath each eye, so handle it with care, especially around hands and nets, and it's sensitive to elevated copper levels, so copper-based treatments should be avoided or used with real caution. It's fully reef safe. It reaches up to 15cm for females, with males roughly half that size, so plan on at least 115L, and 210L or more for a pair.
