🐠 Yellowback Anthias (Pseudanthias evansi)
A Violet-Pink Body Topped With a Bright Yellow Back and Tail • Unusually Similar Sexes • A Striking Harem Species
 
📋 The Yellowback Anthias, also known as the Evansi or Evan's Anthias, has a striking violet-pink body topped with a bright yellow back, dorsal fin, and tail, with fine yellow speckling across the flanks and an orange-to-red line running from the eye toward the pectoral fin. Unusually for an anthias, males and females look quite similar, without the dramatic colour difference seen in most Pseudanthias species.
It comes from the Indian Ocean, from the Andaman Sea and East Africa to Christmas Island, along outer reef slopes, drop-offs, channels, and caves at depths of 4-40 metres, forming shoals that feed passively on zooplankton in the current. Every Yellowback Anthias we ship is feeding well, and frequent small meals and excellent water quality keep it thriving long term.
It's fully reef safe and does best kept as a mated pair, a small group of females, or a proper harem of at least 8 females, which keeps feeding peaceful across the whole group. Keep only one male per tank, since two together leads to serious aggression. It reaches up to 12cm, so plan on at least 285L for one fish, and 470L or more for a harem.
