    Care tips:

    • Toxin: all puffers carry tetrodotoxin, so never eat one, wash your hands after tank maintenance, and use a container and not a net

    • Boxfish and cowfish: these can release a skin toxin when severely stressed, so keep the tank calm, never add transport water, and run activated carbon

    • Teeth: puffer teeth never stop growing, so offer hard-shelled foods like clams, snails, and shrimp in the shell

    • Size: from tobies of about 7-11cm to the Map Puffer at up to 65cm, so choose the tank for the adult

    • Reef safety: most of these fish are not reef safe, since they eat corals, crustaceans, and small invertebrates
